Thomas Tuchel Questions Wembley Fan Atmosphere Following Emphatic Wales Victory.
Thomas Tuchel expressed his regret that the Three Lions team did not enjoy more backing from the Wembley crowd during their impressive friendly win against Wales on Thursday night.
The manager was happy to see his squad maintain their strong performance, with finishes from Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Saka inside the initial stages effectively ending the contest. But, he was unhappy with the atmosphere at the iconic venue.
“We had limited sessions to get ready against a organized team and we did very well,” the coach commented. “We could have been 5-0 up at the break. We couldn’t score the fourth and fifth ones. It was quiet. We didn’t get any energy from the crowd. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you provide in the first quarter? We prevented them get away. If you hear just the Welsh supporters for half an hour, it’s regrettable because the squad earned more support today.”
“I support this statement. There’s nothing more than leading three goals up in a rivalry match. I would have wished for a greater backing in periods where it is challenging.”
“After halftime, to cheer us on, there was excessive support for Wales. It might have aided us to refocus, but that’s football and that is it.”
Squad Decisions Vindicated by Display
Away from potentially starting a dispute among fans, Tuchel also caused a stir by excluding Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. However the decision was justified by Rogers delivering another standout performance in the attacking midfield role and getting his first international goal.
“He plays his game,” Tuchel noted. “He operates as an attacking midfielder and he is fighting for his spot.”
Wales Manager Hopes for Improvement from Defeat
The Wales manager hopes that his team, who face Belgium in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Monday, learn from their awful performance in the opening period.
“This is why I wanted this friendly,” the manager commented. “I need to see our standing. Where do we want to go? What is our identity? Today gives me drive.”
Fitness Worry for Watkins
Watkins was taken off at half-time after colliding with a goalpost and will be a doubt when the national team play Latvia in the Latvian capital in a World Cup qualifying match on next week.
