Suspected Stalker Asked: 'Yet Suppose I Am Madeleine?'
A individual indicted with harassing Kate McCann allegedly deposited her a recorded message which questioned: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who court testimony revealed has persistently declared she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and Karen Spragg are standing trial indicted with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned call records and data recovered from phones recorded Ms Wandelt persistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a genetic test over the past two years.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a family holiday in Portugal - is considered the most widely reported investigations and continues to be unresolved.
'I Am Not Seeking Money'
Another phone message, presented in court, documented Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I believe what I know."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's voicemail stated: "What if there is a small chance that I am she? What then? Isn't that crucial for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I possess a living here in Poland, I just want to understand," the message continued.
The jury was advised that via electronic messages, mobile messages and phone calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a biological test, forwarded youth pictures to her phone in a effort to show a likeness to Mrs McCann's missing daughter, and stated to have "memories" from a childhood with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, a data specialist with Leicestershire Police who gathered the information, advised the court there "didn't appear to be any responses" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt additionally contacted close associates of the McCanns, as per the phone records.
On 9 October 2024, Gerry McCann answered a call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, declaring she had "the wrong phone."
During that incident Ms Wandelt left a voicemail on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I will persist and I intend to demonstrate my position."
The court heard the co-defendant struck up a relationship through digital means with Ms Wandelt preceding joining her on a trip to the McCanns' property in the county in last December.
Phone records demonstrated Mrs Spragg had contacted through WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to say the media had depicted Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she deserved to be treated respectfully in the period preceding the trip to the village, Leicestershire, in last December.
The court learned communications between the two individuals, in last November, planning trying to obtain Mrs McCann's genetic material from her trash or from utensils at a restaurant.
"We need to take action," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.
On the occasion of the visit to their residence, the defendant transmitted a communication which stated: "We are positioned adjacent to the McCanns' residence with our lights out similar to private investigators. I wanted to accomplish this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
The proceedings continues.
