A senior Russian military figure has been killed following an detonation in Moscow, according to official statements.
The incident happened on Monday morning when an IED concealed beneath a vehicle was set off, leading to the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov.
Sarvarov served as the head of the armed forces' unit responsible for operational readiness.
Investigators indicated that one possible explanation suggests the alleged involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. At this time, Ukraine has offered no public response.
Site of the Attack
Teams have been dispatched to the site, which is reportedly in a southern district of the capital.
Reports state the explosion took place in a car park close to a residential building.
History of Targeted Attacks
Since the start of the extensive conflict in Ukraine, a series of Russian military commanders have been subjected to assaults within Moscow.
This latest event comes after other serious incidents, such as:
- General Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a automobile blast in Moscow earlier this year.
- General Igor Kirillov was killed in late 2024 when a bomb placed on a scooter was set off from a distance.
While a source from Ukraine earlier connected Kirillov's death to Ukraine's security service, such allegations are not publicly admitted as a matter of policy.
The war has witnessed shadowy operations moving into the center of the Russian capital.
The examination into General Sarvarov's death is still active.
