New England Equal Longest Winning Streak From Brady Era with Triumph Against Jets
Rookie Henderson has recorded five scores during the current campaign
New England matched their top unbeaten stretch from the Brady era as they overcame AFC East rivals the New York Jets 27-14 in professional football
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson shone brightly with three TDs as the New England squad claimed an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since star signal-caller Brady's last year with the team in the 2019 season
Quarterback Drake Maye accumulated 281 yards and a score, connecting on 25 passes from 34 throws
The triumph extends the Patriots advantage at the top of the division as they advanced to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets at the foot after dropping to two victories and eight defeats
The opposing team had gone in front at their home field with QB Justin Fields rushing for a short rushing score to conclude the New York's initial series
But the New England fought back in the second period as Henderson scored two short rushing scores before the ball carrier grabbed a reception from Maye at the back of the endzone in the middle of the third quarter to make it 21-7
"It was a key occasion for him rising to the challenge, and it's been great for him to keep earning playing time," Maye said of Henderson. "He aims to be great."
Justin Fields threw to John Metchie in the latter part of the third period to reduce the lead for the visitors but Borregales converted a two field goals in the fourth quarter as the home side wrapped up the win
