Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and were in contact with the league office.
The team omitted the name of the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable
No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the incident is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Legal Issues
Rice missed the initial part of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his role in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.
On the field, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
